🌈Holistic Vision Tips to Help our Sleep 💤

💡There are lots of good resources available regarding how to improve our sleep quality and duration.

In my upcoming book: “VISION & Holistic Health,” I mention many of them; but today I wish to highlight just 2 important points regarding our vision that are not necessarily intuitive, and may take some practice and lifestyle changes:

  1. ☀️ Get Some Morning Sun! Even on cloudy days, it is still best to get outside in the mornings, because approximately 30% of UV rays can still be transmitted on highly cloudy days, and up to 90% of UV rays can be transmitted with light cloud cover. Even on days with heavy rainy or snow we can still get exposed to approximately 10 to 20% of UV rays. The most efficient way to get the benefits out of UV exposure is not through our skin, but through our Eyes! … In a process described as “Sunning,” … close your eyes and face the sun for about a minute, up to a few minutes.   2. 🦋 Block Blue Light from Digital Screens! … especially about 90 minutes prior to sleep. But please know, that not all blue blockers are the same! … and we need different amounts of blue light exposure at different times of the day! … as I mention below.

🦋 NOT ALL BLUE BLOCKING GLASSES ARE THE SAME! 🦋

🔹 Digital Device users need proper blue filter glasses to optimize our screen-time experiences while maximizing the health benefits of blocking artificial “junk” light.

🔹 Blue blocking glasses are especially beneficial when working on digital screens from late afternoon to evening, most importantly 1 to 2 hours before bedtime! Exposure to blue lights during those times can throw off circadian rhythms and may contribute to certain diseases, such as Cataracts, Macular Degeneration, and Diabetes. 😨

🔹 Blue light filters are helpful in improving our quality of sleep most notably by helping to increase the production of melatonin which can assist in getting to sleep faster and staying asleep more soundly. Improved quality of sleep can positively affect the quality of our moods and all aspects of our overall health!
🔹 However, blue light filters are needed less during daylight hours because some morning and early afternoon exposure to blue light is healthy and beneficial, so WE DON’T NEED THE SAME TYPE OF BLUE FILTERS DURING THE DAY AS WE DO IN THE EVENINGS! That is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT CONCEPT ABOUT BLUE BLOCKER GLASSES! 🪁 Similar to having running shoes on during a morning run; those are not the same as evening slippers before bed! Both don’t serve the same purposes. And, we wouldn’t want to substitute one for the other.
